How to Catch an Elf by Adam Wallace
You've heard of STEAM and STEM, but how about STREAM? The 'R' stands for reading and is such an important part of every child’s learning path! In these activities, we are linking STEAM projects to a book we read aloud. Each week, in this 5-week class, we will explore a different children’s’ title. We will be doing a fun, hands-on project relating to the book that will incorporate many different skills listed below.
Reading skills- story structure with the 5 elements of a story arc (conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution, brainstorming, comprehension, comparing and contrasting, character traits, among others.
Math skills - engineering, area, and perimeter, measuring, money management, bar graphing for comparison, line plots, map skills, word problems, that they not only solve, but will be helping build.
Science skills- again engineering (a big part of this class), observing, building a hypothesis, experimenting theories with hands-on building of devices for various specific purposes based on the reading, communication, interpreting data, etc.
This course may be great for students in grades 3rd through 6th , however, you know your child and their level best. The ages in this course will vary.
PER CLASS- $16
