Daily Schedule Listed
Monday, June 17th : Storyboard intro, artists will learn about what a storyboard is and why they are used in animations and film. Students will work together to begin their storyboard for the collaborated video for the week. Along the theme of storyboards, artists will create a colored short comic strip art on a canvas tote. An introduction to the program we will use for our clayanimation video will begin this day and campers can share digital animations they are currently working on and get feedback and assistance. Students will sculpt and create their own character for their story, these will be a solid, hardened version, a moveable replica will be made later.
Tuesday, June 18th: Beginning the process of stop motion, campers will create a moveable replica of their own designed character for use in their stop motion collaboration. This will accustom them to recreating as facial features may need adjusted, etc for their work. Each artist will create their own mini stage and backdrop with their personal art. Backdrop accessories will be made. We will further familiarize ourselves with the program and begin capturing motion.
Wednesday, June 19th: Campers will work on their stop motion animation video as a camp collaboration. Each student’s character will have a part in the show. Campers who have a character from Monday will paint them. Artists will learn about Takeshi Obata, the Death Note (for camp, reference will be made toward the popular pineapple apple pen youtube animation, not the actual Deathnote movie) mangaka artist and recreate their own monster drawing via digital art, and receive help with shading, lines , constructive advice and instruction , those without electronics will use colored pencil, ink on toned paper. Artists will use their digital monster art to create a short facial morphing animation meme. In the afternoon, campers will watch a short stop animation video, projected movie theatre style with popcorn and be introduced to green screen techniques, taking fun photos of themselves.
Thursday, June 20th : Students will begin independent stop motion films with instruction using their character and props. Those without electronics or those who weren’t at camp prior will be assistants (moving characters, helping with props, voiceover, etc. while learning) Campers will sketch their own OC’s (original characters) on paper and work together to learn and create a digital flipaclip style animation . Campers will paint their favorite OC’s using their sketch on an 8X10” gallery wrapped canvas with attempts to make their work appear 3D, (noticing the difference between digital and physical art renderings )perfect for hanging in their room.
Friday, June 21st : Final stop animation video collaborations will be completed and ready to publish. Campers who have attended most of camp will now have the ability to create their own stop animations with their backdrops, stage, character, setting and stage accessories, as well as having a basic idea of short digital animations. More digital animation will be studied and 2D animated short film will be explored using keyframes and simple drawings. Artists will make Shrinky dinks keychains to display on clothing, bags, or purses with their own OCs.
